Let's Safe Us

Tue 25th Aug 2026

How many tears must the rivers carry
Before we hear the silence of the lost?
How many homes must drown in sorrow,
How many families must count empty seats
Before we understand that nature's warning
Is also a warning to us?
In Limbe, the waters came with fury,
Turning roads into rivers,
Carrying away lives, dreams, and belongings.
Mothers cried for children,
Families searched through the chaos,
And the rain left behind a wound
No amount sunshine can heal heal.
Then Bamenda—
Another painful chapter written in water.
Lives lost, property damaged and
People running from waters
That should have been flowing safely through their paths.
And now Mbouda trembles beneath the same warning:
A five years old is embraced by the hands of running water.
And once again,
We are reminded that a disaster ignored today
Can become a funeral tomorrow.
But, Cameroon,
Not every tragedy is beyond our control.
Why we di cut tree them wey we no di even check the ground wey di hollam??
We use WA hand them trowe dirty for gutter then di complain say water rain no di pass time wey heaven open?
A gutter filled with waste
Is a river waiting to overflow.
A forest stripped of trees
Is a shield thrown away before the storm.
So let us stop blaming the rain alone.
Let us learn to protect what protects us.
Plant the trees.
Protect the forests.
Keep our gutters clean.
No di trowe dirty for water e road
Listen when warnings are given.
And let communities work together
Before another rainfall becomes another memorial.
Because behind every number that is counted lost,
Is a name.
Behind every name
Is a family.
Behind every family
Is a story that deserved more chapters.
Limbe has cried.
Bamenda has mourned.
Mbouda is in tears
How many more must we lose
Before we change?
Let the rain fall—
But let us prepare the paths for its journey.
Let the trees stand.
Let the gutters breathe.
Let our rivers flow.
And let Cameroon choose life
Before the waters choose for us.
