The Soul of the North West – My Brother Dsaint Livingston
Good morning, family.
Today, I want to take a moment to honor someone who has been a brother to me long before we ever shared a stage. DSaint Livingston – you know him for his silky vocals, his heartfelt lyrics, and his ability to turn a simple melody into a spiritual experience. But what you might not know is the depth of his commitment to our cultural story.
DSaint and I both carry the weight of the North West region in our art. We grew up in the shadows of conflict and hope, in communities where resilience was not a choice but a survival instinct. When we sat down to create our collabo piece for the Roots & Future Summit, we didn't just want to make music – we wanted to make a monument. A tribute to every mother who sang lullabies in her native tongue. Every father who told stories under the moonlight. Every child who deserves to know where they come from.
Our piece incorporates elements of Abakwa Wukop, my call to awakening for our people, with DSaint's signature harmonies. We've woven in traditional chants, contemporary rhythms, and spoken word that speaks directly to the heart. It's a love letter to Bamenda. It's a cry for peace. It's a celebration of survival.
During the working groups at the summit, we'll be discussing how to digitise and document our rituals and songs – so that artists like DSaint and I never have to worry about our children not knowing our tunes. That's the legacy we're building.
If DSaint has ever moved you with his music and poetry, drop a ❤️ for him. Let's show him some love before we hit that stage together.
