Beyond the Stage: Abakwa Toks Poets Amplify Breast Cancer Awareness in Pink October 2026

Mon 12th Oct 2026

At Abakwa Toks: Voices Unbound, we have always believed that poetry is more than just words—it is a tool for healing, a platform for advocacy, and a bridge to the community. This October, we are taking that mission beyond our monthly shows and into the heart of a critical health campaign.

We are incredibly proud to announce that two of our talented poets, Vivi Shenelle and Medine Yahje, will be joining the organizers and partners of Pink October 2026 to commemorate World Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Under the powerful theme, "Every Story is Unique, every Journey Matters," this two-day event is organized by Alliance Française Bamenda in partnership with the Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (OWED) and the Regional Delegation of Public Health.

The Power of Art in Health Advocacy
Breast cancer is a battle that affects far too many families in our community. Early detection and mental health support are crucial, but so is the power of storytelling. When a poet takes the microphone to speak about illness, resilience, or loss, it transcends medical statistics. It touches the human soul.

Vivi Shenelle and Medine Yahje will be delivering spoken word performances that promise to bring depth, emotion, and hope to the event.

They will perform alongside a lineup of amazing female artists, musicians, and traditional dancers, proving that art remains one of our most powerful tools for raising awareness.

At Abakwa Toks, our poets don't just perform; they advocate. They use their voices to shine a light on the darkness. We are honored to stand with Alliance Française, OWED, and the Public Health Delegation to say: Abakwa Breathes, and Abakwa Cares.

Let’s speak. Let’s move. Let’s transform. Let’s save lives.
